Beverages Market Research Reports

The beverages market includes all those companies that produce beverages or drinks. Beverage refers to drinks or liquids which are meant for human consumption. The type of beverage being manufactured determines the type of beverage production. The term “beverage” does not include water, but all other drinks both alcoholic and non alcoholic. Alcoholic beverages contain ethanol and are commonly known as alcohols. Liquor, spirits, beer, cider and wines are alcoholic beverages.

Beverages form an integral part of human culture and society. Non alcoholic drinks include juices, soft drinks, tea, coffee, milk and even drinks which have less than 5% alcohol content.

The various processes that are carried out in the beverage market are distillation, purification, carbonation, fermentation, infusion, mixing, juicing, pasteurization and percolation.

Innovation in the beverage market exists in three main aspects which are beverage processing, beverage packing and beverage plants.

The latest type of beverage in the beverages market is functional beverage. These refer to non alcoholic drinks that are fortified with minerals, vitamins and amino acids and many functional beverages are made of raw fruits and vegetables and herbs. The popularity of functional beverages can be owed to greater awareness about health amongst the masses worldwide. Fortified fruit drinks, energy drinks, ready-to-drink teas, enhanced water, performance drinks and soya based drinks are examples of functional beverages.

In the non alcoholic segment of the beverages market, sales are mostly seasonal and highest sales are reported during the summer months. Due to health concerns these days, there is greater consumer demand for low-sugar-content drinks and sugar-substitute beverages. Developing countries like Brazil, India, Russia and China have a growing beverages market and have invested heavily in developing the beverages distribution network and establishing bottling plants.

The beverages market, in both the segments has a few popular and dominant players facing stiff competition amongst them.

In 2015, the global beer production was 188,640 million liters, which decreased 1.2% compared with last year. The total beer global production has appeared negative growth for two years. Success Case Study: Hint Water
The soft drinks industry is facing intense scrutiny over the levels of sugar and artificial ingredients used in its products. At the same time, manufacturers face myriad and conflicting consumer preferences, for drinks that are tasty, healthy, low- or no- calorie, natural, and hydrating, which calls for new approaches to soft drink formulation. Many brands embark upon programs of incrementally improving their products in response to such demands, but find that these reformulated products are poorly received by consumers who feel that the brand has not done enough to really meet their needs, or has compromised too much on the flavor of the original product. Hint Water saw the market from a fresh perspective, opening up a new approach to healthy and tasty drink formulation. Key Findings -

Quarterly Beverage Tracker - Third Quarter 2016 United States of America
Overall soft drinks consumption increased, driven largely by further dynamic growth for all major packaged water segments, especially carbonated water. An improved performance for carbonates was observed, with low but positive growth for regular carbonates, but no respite for low calorie products which continued to sink. It was a strong quarter for sports drinks and more progress for iced/RTD coffee drinks, but further evidence of inherent weakness in both juice and still drinks. Private Label continued to make solid progress, especially in categories such as packaged water and white milk. Quarterly Beverage Tracker - Third Quarter 2016 United Kingdom
The main soft drinks industry focus remained on sugar reduction over the quarter. Soft drinks achieved a fractional advance, primarily thanks to packaged water which continued to outperform most other categories by a large margin. ACB volumes remained flat overall despite minor gains by a number of individual categories and double digit growth from GNRS and fermented milk. Despite the crushing effect of the war against sugar, carbonates is still the largest soft drinks category in the UK. There has been very little change in its importance over the past five years despite the shifting fortunes of the category itself. An improvement in consumer confidence, as worries over Brexit subsided, plus the feel good effect from UK’s late tropical temperatures failed to lift beverage sales by any
