Bord Bia Unveils online Food and Drink Store for 1.5 m Chinese Shoppers a day

The Irish state agency, Bord Bia has entered into an agreement with SF Best, which is one of the leading ecommerce platforms in China. According to the deal SF Best will see promotions and sales of Irish food and drinks that will happen online in the next 12 months.

In the initial phase of the deal, SF Best’s online shop will notice the promotions of premium Irish seafood, and will later see promotion of other products as well such as the Kerrygold dairy range. SF Best’s site will also see promotions of alcoholic beverages.

The deal was signed between the Asia Director of Bord Bia and the Group Vice President of SF Best, and the ceremony was also attended by the Irish ambassador to China. As stated by Bord Bia’s executive, this is a perfect partnership for the company. In China, Irish food is trusted by families to be safe, healthy, and clean and SF Best is trusted by Chinese families on account of its unparalleled record for safe and secure logistics.

In terms of structure, SF Best is a subsidiary of SF Express Group in China, the latter known to be a market leader in delivery logistics with an annual turnover of Euro 1.71bn.

SF Express Group has operations in 2800 stores across China, and more so, for Irish food exporters. The ecommerce business of the parent company is recognized as a leader in the business of fresh and frozen imported produce. The annual turnover of SF Best is Euro 150 mn, which has some 1.5 m people that visit the website daily.

As stated by Bord Bia, in China online shopping is increasingly becoming an important part of the consumer’s purchasing habits. In the first quarter of 2015, online transactions in China exceeded Euro 108 bn, which is up by 45% for the same period in 2013.
