Sony Computer Entertainment said on Wednesday that it had reached a critical business milestone by hitting the 10 million unit sales mark worldwide on its PlayStation4 computer gaming system. Sony announced this milestone was reached on August 10, 2014, making the PS4 the fastest among all its predecessors in reaching this coveted mark.
Sony Comptuer Entertainment’s Group CEO and President, Andrew House, said that the PS4 has touched this commemorative milestone less than nine months of its launch. He said that the company was now working towards bringing more services and content to its users in the months ahead.
During the same period, sales of PS4 have remained strong as well, with the company claiming that a record 30 million copies have been sold via retail channels and digital downloads worldwide (on the PlayStationStore).
The company announced the game portfolio developed for PS4 will continue to see new additions, including some eagerly awaited titles such as Destiny, LittleBigPlanet 3, Driveclub, and SingStar: Ultimate Party.
Several new PS4 titles also continue to be developed by the independent developers that are anticipated to launch titles such as Hohokum, Minecraft, and CounterSpy 3. Sony Computer Entertainment said that it will also focus on it’s the network features of its PS4 system to offer higher satisfaction levels and sharper experiences to its users. As part of this endeavor, players will be able to directly upload game footage to YouTube, as well as use a new ‘Share Play’ feature that will allow users to play computer games with their friends remotely, but with more interactive features.
