The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) was among the first to approve high intensity sweetener as artificial enhancer and several other food regulatory bodies across the world have followed the suit in recent past. Now considered safe for consumption, various manufacturers in the food and beverage industries have introduced sugar-free products and thereby propelling the global market for high intensity sweeteners.

Growing Obesity Concerns
Excessive sugar-intake leads to body fat. As per the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, two out of three adults are considered overweight in the U.S. while more than 1 in 20 adults and considered to have extreme obesity in the country. This factor is escalating the demand for high intensity sweetener in the regional market of North America.

With the widespread outreach of the Internet and social media, awareness for the ill-effects of sugar is on the rise. Consumers are now realizing the health benefits of sugar-free diets and hence, fueling the demand for high intensity sweeteners. Moreover, the demand for dietary supplements used in protein shakes that are sugar-free is escalating.
