Google Launches New Backup and Sync Software for Mac and Windows

Google has recently released its new Backup and Sync software for free download for Windows and Mac. The new software will help users to back up the photos and files more easily on their computer. It will replace the older Google photos desktop app and Google Drive applications. Nevertheless, it’s a combination of the functionalities of older apps into one experience.

New Software to Offer Simpler User Interface and Better Features

The new tool comes with a simple user interface, where users have to first sign into their Google account and then the select the folders they want Google to continually back up to the Drive. As explained by the tech giant last month, will respect users’ settings with the older versions on Mac and PC. Besides backing up files on their desktop computer, the new tool also backs up photos from removable USB-connected devices such as cameras and SD cards. After the completion of backup, users can access their files in the Drive from any device – including phones, tablets, and computers. Your videos and photos, meanwhile, can be accessed through Google Photos.

Google to Launch Drive File Stream Later this Year

From within the Backup and Sync tool, users will be able to configure various preferences and settings, including the quality of photos and videos to be uploaded. Advanced settings include a selection of the process to handle file deletions and change in the rates of upload or download. Google is planning to release a novel enterprise-focused tool called Drive File Stream, which will be available to all Enterprise, Education, Business, G Suite Basic, and Nonprofit domains in the coming months this year.
