Published Date : Sep 29, 2017

Elon Musk has live streamed the presentation of SpaceX’s one of the most ambitious launches ever Friday at 12:30 am EDT in Adelaide, Australia at the International Astronautical Congress (IAC). The billionaire founder of the company has offered an updated plan for about a million people to colonize Mars. The live YouTube feed has already crossed an over 43,000 views in an hour. Unexpected applications and major improvements have been anticipated to be discussed by Musk in the talk. He had revealed the design of his Mars vehicle last year at the IAC in Guadalajara, Mexico during a one-hour presentation.

The Interplanetary Transport System, a 40-story-high, two-part Mars vehicle of SpaceX, has been predicted to ferry a 100-200 passengers to the fourth planet from the sun with the help of its spaceship. The spaceship has been named after the movie The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’s vessel, the Heart of Gold. The system has been foreseen to outstrip the Saturn V moon rocket of NASA. The giant reusable booster, the largest part of the system, has been commonly referred to as the Big F---ing Rocket (BFR) by Musk.

SpaceX has considered the full reusability of the spaceship and the booster as a key to significantly decrease the extortionate cost of launching people along with their cargo from the earth. The company has aimed at making the ride to the red planet cheaper than purchasing a house, i.e. less than a US$100,000 per person. According to Musk, the first colonists could find a way to harvest water and carbon dioxide in Mars’ soil and air, for surviving and returning to the earth, then converting that material into rocket fuel, breathing air, and more.
