The Hong Kong based telecom provider Citic Telecom CPC has set out a desktop as a service offering, which is based on VMware Horizon that the firm claims to be the first of its type in the country.
The firm stated that the virtual desktop solution will be focused on the companies in the Asia Pacific region, which function in various locations but do not have the resources to construct their infrastructure.
The senior vice president of information technology and security services at Citic Telecom, Mr. Daniel Kwong stated that several firms in Hong Kong and the Asia Pacific region are hiring a larger mobile workforce and are functioning more and more on a multi office model. But, the technical infrastructures of these firms are unable to support the dynamic needs of this market in day-today operations.
This move is a part of a wider effort for powering the reach of the telecom companies in the regional IT services, specifically in Taiwan, Singapore, and mainland China. To add more power to its cloud offerings, the firm has launched its first cloud data center in Shanghai the previous year, and it has plans to start 2 more cloud data centers in Guangzhou and Beijing in late 2015.
It will also provide the virtualizations that will boost the market in the region. In the previous year VMware stretched its cloud services in Asia partnering with China Telecom based in China and SoftBank based in Japan.
