A recently conducted research revealed sugary beverages are likely to cut down your stress. Most often we feel guilty of having sweet drinks or snacks in between a stressful day at work. However, recently conducted researches claim that it is not such a big deal after all to treat ourselves with delightful sugary beverages.
It has been observed by the report that busy workers most often resort to snacks or sweet drinks to re-energize themselves. However, after some time none can deny the pang of guilt they feel within for consuming the extra calories. In fact more than often, having beverages become a daily indulgence for such workers. However, a new research recently revealed treating yourself with sugary beverage can actually help in reducing stress levels.
In order to study the benefits or adverse effects of beverages a study was conducted recently. The study involved 11 participants who were told to drink beverages that had high sugar content and eight others were asked to consume beverages which were sweetened using aspartame. During the study the researchers discovered that women who consumed the beverage that was sweetened using sugar recorded reduced level of cortisol in their saliva. Cortisol is a hormone which is released while we are at stress. It is produced by adrenal gland and is highly essential for the body to respond to stress.
Dr Kevin Laugero, from University of California, who is also one of the members of the team researching on the effect of sugar sweetened beverage on stress said, the observation was the first evidence of its kind to show high sugar, and not aspartame consumption can act as a potent stress reliever for humans.
