Cider is the fastest growing alcohol sector in Ontario. The Ontario Craft Cider Association (OCCA) approves the program that was announced by the Government of Ontario on December 16. The program is about the permit that is set on the VQA wines worth to be sold at the farmers’ markets. This program will certainly drive the market of Ontario wines.
OCCA members are keen on working with the Government of Ontario to cater some of the world’s best tasting ciders, made with 100% Ontario apples. The farmers’ market customers appreciate the buying local though.
Speaking of the apples, these fruits are abundant in the farmers’ markets throughout Ontario. The apples make the craft cider a perfect natural fit for the distribution channel.
The OCCA members are taking immense efforts in producing the craft ciders with unique Ontario apples. They are looking forward to developing stronger bonds with the government to come up with a world-class cider industry in Ontario, said Nick Sutcliffe, Chairman, OCCA.
