To offer its customers slimmer and lighter devices, LG is manufacturing Advanced In-Cell Touch panels for notebook PCs. The company aims to launch the devices carrying this panel by the second half of the year. The full HD LCD panel with In-Cell touch function is an exclusive development by LG Display. The latest technology has installed a touch sensor in the LCD panel. In the earlier devices, the touch panel was placed on top of the LCD. The company has already introduced the latest technology in its smartphones such as LG G4 but is yet to install it in the notebook PCs.
There is no need for touch function cover glass in the advanced in-cell touch technology which decreases the panel’s thickness by 1 millimetre and its weight by 200 grams compared to the earlier 15.6 touch embedded panel with full HD resolution. The South Korean manufacturer has mentioned that the technology will offer clearer and brighter screen picture owing to no loss or reflection of light by the cover glass. Excellent touch response is also another advantage of the technology.
The move to incorporate the latest technology by the company can be attributed to the encouraging customer feedback about the ultra-slim and light LCD panel for notebook PCs. LG is looking forward to manufacture 15.6-inch and 14-inch panels for other global notebook PC brands and is currently in talks with the customers. The company is also working on in-cell touch technology based panel for pen touch functions. Pen touch functions help a user to combine the functions of laptop and tablet in PC. According to Byeong-Koo Kim, the Vice President and head of the mobile development group at LG Display, the latest technology will push the company’s growth in the notebook PC market.
