Chancellor George Osborne has declared that the next Star Wars movie will be filmed in UK in the coming year.
This announcement was done on the set of the film Star Wars: Episode VII, which was being shot in London’s Pinewood Studios. The filming of the new movie in the series will also be filmed at the same studio in the year 2015.
Episode VII cast lists many original actors such as Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, and Mark Hamill. The film is directed by JJ Abrams.
Kathleen Kennedy, the President of Lucasfilm said that the UK crew which is working on this movie is incredibly talented and passionate.
The film Star Wars: Episode VII which is the fifth in the series is due to be released in theatres on 18th of December 2015.
According to the Chancellor this announcement shows that Britain has incredible talent. He also said that this project will help create more jobs and will lead to more investment.
George Osborne also stated that Lucasfilm and Disney studio’s action regarding the filming of Star Wars: Episode VII in UK was another sign to the incredible talent in U.K. He also said that the film tax changes made during the Budget 2014 will help to support their skilled creative sector so that they are encouraged to create such films more in U.K.
The UK’s film tax relief will provide 25 percent tax relief on the first 20 million pounds of the qualifying expenditure, and after that it will 20 percent.
