Recently, Hamid Ansari, the Vice President of Cambodia said that there are equal investment opportunities for China and India in Cambodia. He further stated that Cambodia is doing its best to create investment opportunities in specialty telecommunication and wireless sector, transmission lines, and water resources. According to Hamid Ansari, China is taking its special efforts to grab the opportunities. The debate was about whether Beijing will feel uneasy or uncomfortable due to India’s efforts in making investment. Beijing will not be affected by India’s push towards investments in the telecommunication industry in Cambodia, said Hamid Ansari.
China’s investment trends and tricks have always been different and that makes them unique. The relationship between China and Cambodia has reached different levels since the past few years. China has now became the largest foreign investors of Cambodia. Being a major donor of assistance, China is also considered as an important trading partner for Cambodia. China has made investments in regions such as Laos, and many other Southeast Asian nations. Hamid Ansari is on a four-day tour to Laos and Cambodia and feels that the tour is important for China and Cambodia, as both the countries are a part of the ASEAN group. Ansari aims to settle down ties between China and Cambodia during the trip.
Ansari also focused on some other business matters during this four-day tour. South China Sea disputes, and Mekong-Ganga Cooperation, will also be discussed in the tour. The Philippines, Brunei, Taiwan, and Vietnam, strongly compete China’s sovereignty claims on the South China Sea. About Mekong Ganga Cooperation, Hamid Ansari further said that some points will be discussed in the four-days tour such as scholarships offered. The Mekong Ganga Cooperation that comprises of six member countries, was established in Vientiane, Laos in 2000, at the first ever MGC Ministerial Meeting.
