Oil Search Limited is an independent company engaged in the exploration and development of crude oil and natural gas mainly in the Papua New Guinea (PNG) region. It is the largest oil and gas producer in the country and operates all of the PNG’s currently producing oil and gas fields. The company’s shares are listed on the Australian and the Port Moresby Stock Exchanges with a market capitalization of around $9 billion at the end of 2010. The company’s producing assets are located in PNG region and its exploration assets are located in Yemen, Iraq and Tunisia. The company’s major producing areas in the PNG region are Kutubu and Moran Oil Projects, both located in the Southern Highlands Provinces of PNG. These projects account for more than 80% of the its total production and the company has been operating these fields for the past 15-20 years. These fields are mature now and hence, showing a declining trend in the production. As a result of this natural decline, the company reported a total oil and gas production of around 7.7 MMboe in 2010, around 5.7% decline over the previous year’s volume. However, the company is undertaking several redevelopment programmes in these projects to offset this decline and obtain a steady stream of cash flows which can be further invested in the upcoming projects.
