Extremely hot weather and a recovering economy were behind growth of well over 1% for all commercial beverages in Quarter 3. Although the unemployment rate is relatively low in the Czech Republic compared to many other European countries, fear of unemployment continues to be one of the main factors stopping consumer spending, even though the rate is dropping. Retail sales were driven by slowed inflation and people beginning to feel wage improvements, this growth faded in Q3-15 as more durable goods rather than food and drinks were purchased.
Horeca sales were a key driver of growth, particularly in the consumption of carbonates and beer, as hotels and restaurants recorded positive results and consumers started to socialize more and relaxed their spending on meals.
