Alcoholic drinks remained broadly stable in Q4-15. Wines, however, gained share, driven by increased sales in modern retail, thanks to the wide range on offer and the improved presentation of wine in-store. Overall liquid dairy consumption declined during Q4-15. Across the main product categories, only premium product varieties were able to buck the negative trend. Sales of soft drinks grew positively in Q4-15 compared to the last period, principally driven by the continuing strong performance of packaged water.

Key Findings
Alcohol free beer continues to out-perform the market, targeted in particular at day-time drinking when consumption of alcohol has become increasingly socially unacceptable

PL brands made strong gains for soft drinks during the quarter, largely thanks to booming sales in the discount channel

At home consumption of bulk/HOD water is expanding, driven by the convenience of the product and the stylish, modern image of water cooler systems

The declining trend in white milk consumption continued in Q4-15

The Private Label share for cultured dairy drinks is significantly lower than that for white milk owing to the presence of strong brands, both from Austria and neighbouring countries

Sales in modern retail are in decline, with filter coffee bearing the brunt of the losses, despite continuing to account for over two thirds of total sales through this channel
