Sales of soft drinks declined compared to the same period of 2015. Only sports and energy drinks were able to buck the negative trend, with all remaining categories facing losses. Food retailers performed ahead of non-food retailers, registering a nominal increase in sales compared to last year, although taking inflation into account. PL brands again performed ahead of the market.

Key Findings
Bulk/HOD water declined mainly due to the wet and unsettled weather conditions, particularly during June which suppressed consumer demand

Energy drinks grew mainly driven by the positive development of PL brands

Alcoholic drinks grew in Q2-16, mainly driven by the improved performance of beer which benefited from incremental sales generated by the UEFA Euro 2016 soccer championships

Liquid dairy consumption declined during Q2-16 compared to Q2-15. The decline was predominantly driven by the lower consumption of white milk
